Adrian Jacobs, the CRC's Sr. Leader for Justice & Reconciliation, will be hosting an On-the-Land Learning event on Saturday, May 23, in Ohsweken, ON.
Participants will be invited into a day of land-based learning that explores the Land Back movement, Indigenous land rights, and the ongoing work of healing within local communities.
The event will be focused on story, including sharing the story of the 2006 and 2020 land claim conflicts in Caledonia, the history of gypsum mining at Six Nations and the Carolinian Forest, journeys of healing and relationship building at Nations Uniting, Indigenous Christian identity and food systems during lunch at Faith Victory Church, learning about caring for the land through restoration work, and a visit to the longhouse at Kayanase.
Through storytelling, guided walks on the land, shared meals, and visits to spaces of cultural and ecological restoration, participants will deepen their understanding of place, history, and relationship.
We welcome anyone interested in learning more about connecting with Indigenous neighbours to participate. We have space for 25 people.
